Horse Guards building an arena in which there is now the Central Exhibition Hall "Manege", was built in the XIX century to the Horse Guards regiment of the great architect Giacomo Quarenghi. The first exhibitions and concerts, as well as all sorts of recreational activities have been started in the building of the arena in the early XX century.

After 1917, the building is taken in turn all sorts of agencies and organizations. In the 30s there was a fire in the arena, after which the building was rebuilt as a garage and the NKVD has lost much of its original appearance and design. What has not been affected by mutations, it was damaged during World War II.

Since 1973, the Horse Guards began restoration of the building of the arena, his conversion and the transformation of the exhibition hall. In November 1977 Central Exhibition Hall was opened to visitors. The first is performed here show was devoted to the work of artists of Leningrad and was called "Art belongs to people."

Currently, "Arena" - is the largest showroom in St. Petersburg, and one of the largest in Russia in general.

There are major art exhibitions of different formats - exhibitions devoted to St. Petersburg and the creative elite, children's show, international exchange and exhibition, exhibition of works by individual artists and much art groups, art exhibitions, included in private collections, etc. Also, there are concerts, presentations, festivals of contemporary art, creative meetings, workshops and master classes.
