Sweden - East Coast and Islands

Raukary (Rauk)

Raukary - a Swedish term meaning the natural rock formations that resemble pillars and intricate shapes, formed by erosion during the glacial period.

They are found everywhere, but most of them on the southern and northern parts of the island of Gotland and the island of Fere.

Raukary appeared more than 400 million years ago, when the Baltic was a tropical sea. Then the formed layers of limestone, forming the basis of the islands of Gotland and Öland.
