Museum "History of the Russian political police of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries" is located in the most appropriate for this building - the former Department of the St. Petersburg gradonachalstva and police. Here, for more than 50 years of working bodies of special services of Russia and the Soviet Union.

The exposition of the museum occupies three rooms.

The first of these re-created office of the chief of the St. Petersburg Police Department late XIX - early XX centuries, employing well-known figures of the political police. In 1917 this office began to work the chairman of the Cheka Felix Dzerzhinsky. It is in these walls at different periods in Russian history led to the questioning of activists of different political currents as trotters, Lenin, Martov, and many others. The office is fully restored historic interior - furniture of the nineteenth century, chandeliers, damask wallpaper.

The second room is an exhibition on the work of the political police in pre-revolutionary period.

In addition, the second hall are portraits of people who led the revolution to political investigation, prison clothes and letters of political prisoners and an anniversary album with watercolors by gendarmes, embodying its various divisions.

In the third room exhibits items related to the All-Russian Extraordinary Commission of Petrograd Cheka and during the Civil War, and illustrate the history of a political police of the USSR. Among them - the departmental instructions, leaflets and documents of the period of red terror (letters of political prisoners, records of the board Petrocheka).
