Royal Castle | Kungliga Slottet

The Royal Castle is located in Old Town - Stockholm quarter.

In the Middle Ages on the site of the palace stood the castle of Stockholm, Birger Jarl founded to protect the waterway from the Baltic to the Malaren.Schitaetsya that it is in place, which formerly housed Stockholm, castle, now a royal palace, and was laid out the future city of Stockholm.

In the 17th century Tre krunor became too small, and Charles XI commissioned the architect Tessin Nycomed expand the state's residence.

May 7, 1667 in the castle there was a fire, sparing only the north wing, and then proceeded to Ticino construction of a new palace. Construction began a rapid pace, but soon almost ceased due to lack of funds. In order to continue construction was introduced a special state tax.

After the death of Tessin, the architect transferred authority to his son, Carl Gustav, and directed the work of the architect Carl Horleman.

In 1774 King Adolf Frederick and Queen Louise Ulrica, had settled in the new palace.Their sons, Princes Gustav III, XIII and Karl-Adolf Frederick, later settled in the east and west wing.

By 1770, the castle was turned into a magnificent palace.

Today the palace is a huge artistic and historical value.

Apartment Ceremonial

In the state rooms are stopped during official visits of heads of state held official receptions, dinners and celebrations.
It is the oldest part of the castle, remodeled in 1690 to designs by French masters Nicodemo Tessin the Younger.
In the front bedroom of Gustav III ceiling is decorated with allegorical paintings, executed in 1690 and the Fouquet Chauveau.
Other details of the decor in the style of French classicism are 1772-1779 years old.
In the alcove where the bed stood a monarch - a wonderful tapestry of Rococo presented to the king in Paris in 1784.
Classrooms are decorated Japanese lacquer panels and mosaic relief. On consoles - busts of Karl XII and Gustavus III.

Gallery of Charles XI

The central part of the state apartments, created Ticino.
The interiors of the original, unchanged since the 1690s.
Allegorical motifs ceiling established in honor of Charles XI and his wife Ulrike, Eleanor.
In the art collection showcases the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, the product of Swedish glassmakers, Meissen porcelain of the XVIII century.

White's office

Shop Don Quixote

Shop got its name from the tapestries, which depict scenes from the life of the hero of Cervantes.

Bernadotte Apartments designed by architect Charles Horlemana.
The last of the royal couple, who lived in these apartments have been Oscar II and Queen Sofia.

After the death of the monarch in 1907, his personal account maintained intact.
Pictures of family and friends, trinkets and trifles give the impression of the invisible presence of the owner.

Bernadotte Gallery

From the rich decoration is preserved only the ceiling, a fireplace, windows and doors - in the rococo style.
Gallery is partially lost its decoration, to take pictures purchased from Carl-Gustaf Tessin Fredrik I. Among them are portraits of the Bernadotte dynasty.
Between the east wall of windows - things that belonged to Carl XIV Johan - marshal's baton, sword, silver accessories.

Guest suites

Since the XIX century apartment, located on the third floor of the east wing, intended for official guests.

The richness of the collections they hold one of the first places among the exhibits of this kind.

Museum of Antiquities is located in the north-west wing, under Bernadotte Library. It was created by Gustav III in 1792godu.
Royal Castle has a double status: the official royal residence, and cultural-historical monument that is available to the public.
