Royal Opera House (Kungliga Operan)

The current Royal Opera House was built in the years 1891-1898 in Renaissance style.

In 1775 it began construction of the first building for the theater. The author of the building design was the architect Carl Fredrik Abelkrants. The customer of Gustav III.
The first building was demolished in 1892 to begin construction of a new opera house, which was completed seven years later, and opened by King Oscar II.

Entrance to the theater building is decorated with Corinthian portico with four statues of the Muses. Marble foyer, there is a wall painting of Carl Larsson.
Hall has excellent acoustics and a wide view the scene for the viewer.

Located in the heart of Stockholm, opposite the Royal Castle, in the street Gustav Adolf bargaining.

In repertory operas and ballets. The ballet and opera season begins in the fall.

The hall is designed for 1,100 spectators

Opera has its own symphony orchestra.

Some famous people in the history of the Royal Swedish Opera:
In the years 1889-1902 - the concertmaster of the opera, the composer and conductor, Tour Aulin.
From 1930 to 1933 - the opera singer Jussi Bjorling.
In 1975 - the troupe toured the Royal Swedish Opera in the USSR.
In the years 1985-1989 - chief conductor of the Royal Swedish Opera - Estonian conductor Eri Klas.

In the lobby of the Opera House King of Sweden, met his fate: during the masquerade March 16, 1792, he was shot by Jacob Johan Ankarstremom, and died several days later.
