Count Rumyantsev Mansion from the very beginning became a center of cultural life in St. Petersburg. Earl was an educator and philanthropist, he assembled a unique collection of various antiquities, incunabula, old manuscripts, religious books and other monuments of Russian history and culture.

After his death in his home Rumyantsev museum was created that included all the collections, he collected a lifetime. The entrance was completely free of charge, to go inside and see the exhibits exposed there could anyone. However, after the death of his younger brother of Count Rumyantsev, by means of which there was a museum in the history of the mansion-museum began a period of decline.

In the second half of XIX century Rumyantsev Museum "moved" to Moscow, his collection became the basis for the creation of the Moscow Public and Rumyantsev Museum, and the vast collection of books went to the Russian State Library. The house itself Rumyantsev replaced a lot of owners, and since 1917 it snapped up the room every organization.

In 1938, the mansion was given to the Rumyantsev Museum of History and Development of Leningrad. Currently, there is a branch of the State Museum of St. Petersburg.

In the Rumyantsev Mansion are four permanent exhibits - "History of the building and its owners," "The New Economic Policy. The image of the city and man", "From the everyday to the holidays. Studies of the 30s." and "Leningrad during the Great Patriotic War."

In the rooms of the exhibition one can see historical documents relating to the Rumyantsev apart, a copy of his architectural plans, the photographs form an impression of what the interiors of the mansion were in the early XX century, to be informed about all the owners of the house and examine them in portraits. One section of the exhibition is devoted directly to Count Rumyantsev, the creator of the first collections of the museum and philanthropist. The exposition is very detailed outlines the history of the building in the XX century, from its beginning until the last few days.

The second exhibition devoted to the period of the NEP in city history. In the halls of the reproduced typical interiors of St. Petersburg at the time - "a shoe shop," "Restaurant", "Atelier milliner", "communal kitchen," "Living Room" ... Constantly sounding music and flashing on the screen newsreel city can immerse themselves in the urban atmosphere of the time. In addition, the exhibition has a variety of printed materials at the time - movie posters, calendars, newspapers, books, etc.

The third exhibition tells about the 30s in the history of St. Petersburg. It can be seen as typical for that time, clothes, various household objects and photographs and copies of the product that produced by the plant during that period. For example, a TV, "RMC", a mock oil tanker or the first trolley.

Last exhibition is dedicated to events associated with the life of the siege of Leningrad. Here you can see the interior of the shelter, the famous diary of Tanya Savicheva schoolgirl, employed during the Nuremberg trials, as well as evidence of hunger in those years - and substitute products blockade bread, the same 125-gram piece of that was the daily norm for most city residents during the month in 1941.
