It was a simple structure: a depression in the ground about 3 meters, above which rises a wooden structure in the form of a cube with three-tier pyramid on top. People came on the one hand, rounded the coffin in and out the other side. In April, it was built a new wooden building, in the form corresponding to the modern, with adjacent stands. The sarcophagus was made by the architect K. Melnikov and served until the end of World War II. At the entrance of the honor guard was on duty.

In 1930 the stone structure was built and designed by A. Shchusev. The structure was faced with a dark-red granite, marble, and the inscription at the entrance is made - Lenin. Built on both sides of the rostrum from which members of the Government welcomed the passing show, and watching military parades. Inside the memorial hall is 1000 sq.m. Soviet scientists have developed a unique technology that made it possible to keep the body of the leader for decades. For the construction of the tombs of prominent communist government.

During World War II leader's body was kept in the city of Tyumen. After the war, the sarcophagus was replaced by new, and in 1973 - in bulletproof. When Stalin died, his body was embalmed and placed and also here. But due to the dethronement of his personality cult had been buried near the Kremlin wall.

Several times there were attempts to damage or even destroy the building and the body of the leader.
