The history of Hallstatt
This small town, which is still called Hallstatt (Hallstatt), located in Upper Austria's Salzkammergut region, and is located on the picturesque banks of the river, which carries with it the same name. On all sides around Hallstatt wonderful in its beauty Dachstein mountain range, looking at who can not hide the admiration of the beauty and monumentality of these natural formations. No wonder this region for its unique natural beauty and grandeur, was the 1997 decision of the special committee of the UNESCO listed heritage culture of global significance. Do not be amiss to say that the name of this ancient town was named a historical formation, which is still called Hallstatt.

The first evidence of human presence in the village Hallstatt datiruyutsyadvenadtsatym millennium before our era. It is to this age include human bones, found by scientists in the cave bear, which they attributed to the Neolithic period, when it was here and the first human settlements.
From the earliest times the inhabitants of these places were engaged in mining of rock salt. Even the name of the town comes from the ancient Celtic word hall, which means salt. Once upon a time, back in prehistoric times, these places splashed salty sea water, and then there was a large salt deposits. Geological changes have led to land that the sea is gone, but the reserves of salt have been hidden under a thick layer of Earth's species. However, one nice moment for the ancient people, the mountain, which is nestled at the foot of Hallstatt, split into two halves, exposing people to its salt treasure.
Since then, with a definite break in the late Bronze Age, does not stop production of this vital mineral.
In the year 800 before our era in the eastern tribes come Hallstatt Illyrians, who were sufficiently developed culturally by people actively engaged in animal husbandry, crafts and mined rock salt. In addition, they have left behind a remarkable examples of fine art.
After about the year 400 before our era the Celts pushed the Illyrians from these lands, they formed the first state in the territory of modern Austria - Norikum kingdom. The Celts continued to develop salt deposits, improving them and giving them certain elements of mechanization. Trade in "white gold" brought considerable profit, as evidenced by the presence of a large number of excavation sites of precious metals and unique pieces of glass and ivory.
Romans conquered the Celts, with characteristic thoroughness, began construction of city streets, buildings and communications in Hallstatt, as well as with the Celts continued the production of salt. From the third century of the modern era in the Hallstatt Christianity came. And in the 12th century the town was erected the first church of St. Michael, which is one of the attractions of Hallstatt.

Interestingly, until the 19th century, there was no direct road, which would lead to Hallstatt, it can be accessed only by a narrow path, or sailed across the lake by boat. But since the end of this century, Hallstatt began to take its first visitors arriving with educational goals.
In 2004 the town was discovered by the world's oldest wooden staircase, which had lain in the ground for more than three and a half thousand years. Due to the high concentration of salts in a breed, it is entirely subjected to the processes of decay.
